by The Stinger on Nov.03, 2009, under Australian, Other Sports

The race that stops a nation, The 2009 Melbourne Cup horse race has been run and won.  The Mark Kavanagh trained horse Shocking made his way to the front down the home straight and eventually held off all challengers to win.  Jockey Corey Brown, who was lucky to be on Shocking got him to the front with 200m to go and beat home Crime Scene and Mourilyan.

Brown was originally scheduled to ride Vigor who was scratched but then was given the ride on Shocking after jockey Michael Rodd couldn’t make  the weight.  Brown, who had finished the race in second aboard Bauer last year, got his chance to go one better and he took it.

Here is the race in full.
