A Big Weekend In Sport

by The Stinger on Apr.28, 2009, under Uncategorized

There was some big sports stories that happened over the weekend with the NBA and NHL playoffs continuing, the Euro football leagues coming to their climax, the MotoGP, Superbikes, NASCAR and Indycars all continued their seasons and a big weekend in Aussie Football.

In the NHL, New York Rangers coach John Tortorella benched star pest Sean Avery for a game during their series with Washington.  He then proceeded to have a “fight”  with a fan behind the bench.  I guess he was showing Avery how to be an idiot the right way.  There are talks that at the next WWE Pay-Per-View, Avery & Tortorella will team up for a match against Martin Brodeur and a Random Drunk Capitals Fan.  Should be a good one.

In Philly, apparently the Flyers thought that playing half a game when their season was on the line was a good idea when they blew a 3-0 lead to lose 5-3 and lose the series 4-2.  Oh well, better luck next season.

On the track and British 125cc rider Bradley Smith introduced his head to his windshield after a big moment on one of the treacherous corners at Motegi in Japan.  Also in the MotoGP class Japanese rider Takahashi thought he would try the Vulcan mind meld with his bike and Nicky Hayden’s.  It almost worked but Hayden wasn’t happy with the result and asked for his money back.

Speaking of people asking for their money back, NASCAR fans at Talladega have been picking bits and pieces of Carl Edwards’ car out of their hair and various parts of their body after he tried to see if he could achieve flight on the last lap.  He did get airbourne but was brought back to earth by a catchment fence at the end of his runway.  I do believe though he set a new flight record for a NASCAR vehicle.

The future of AC Milan star Kaka is unclear after Manchester United made an offer for him.  Apparently David Beckham has also asked him whether he would like to take his place at the LA Galaxy.  This might be a good idea except for the fact that no one in America has ever heard of Kaka.

Any crash you can walk away from is a good one. Carl Edwards even went on to finish the race, albeit minus his car. Hope the fans who got injured are ok. Good work Stinger.
